INGREDIENTS USED RED VELVET LAVA COOKIE IN MICROWAVE
BUTTER
Butter is the main ingredient in making cookies as it gives richness and tenderness to the cookies. I have used this salted butter which will give a crispy structure to the cookie. Butter richness, enhances flavor, and keeps the cookie soft and tender. Butter also helps in achieving a moist texture, preventing the cookie from turning dry in the microwave.
CASTOR SUGAR
This fine sugar dissolves quickly, making it perfect for microwave recipes. It provides the essential sweetness and also helps in achieving a soft texture. Since red velvet cookies should have a slight chewiness, castor sugar is the ideal choice.
ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
The structural foundation of the cookie. Flour gives body and stability to the dough, ensuring that it holds its shape while baking. It also helps balance out the moisture, so the cookie doesn’t become too soft or fall apart. The right proportion of flour ensures a delicate but firm bite. I use this flour to make my red velvet cookie.
COCOA POWDER
A key ingredient in achieving that signature red velvet flavour. Cocoa powder adds a subtle chocolatey depth, complementing the sweetness of the cookie. It also works well with the Nutella filling, making the entire dessert extra indulgent.
BAKING SODA
This leavening agent is responsible for giving the cookie a light and airy texture. Since microwave baking is fast, baking soda helps the cookie rise slightly, preventing it from becoming too dense or heavy.
RED FOOD COLOUR
The iconic red hue is what makes red velvet cookies so visually appealing! The food color enhances the contrast between the deep chocolate flavor and the bright appearance, making the cookie stand out beautifully.
NUTELLA
The star of the show! This smooth and creamy chocolate-hazelnut spread creates the irresistible molten lava center. Nutella stays gooey even after microwaving, giving the perfect contrast to the slightly crisp exterior of the cookie.
EQUIPMENT USED IN MAKING RED VELVET LAVA COOKIE IN MICROWAVE
The kind of equipment you use when you’re baking makes a huge difference to the end result! I would recommend you to use good quality mixing bowls and other equipment so that your marble cookies come out delicious!
To mix all my ingredients together in, I’m using Borosil’s 100% Borosilicate Glass Bowl which makes my baking process totally hassle free!
Not a single day goes in my kitchen when I don’t use a Silicon Spatula, this is the one I recommend. Same goes for my set of Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons.

TIPS TO MAKE RED VELVET LAVA COOKIE IN MICROWAVE
Cold butter or other ingredients can lead to uneven mixing. Make sure your butter is soft but not too hot, so it blends smoothly with the sugar and flour.
Every microwave is different! Start with 50-60 seconds and check. If it’s too soft, microwave for 5-10 more seconds. Overcooking can make the cookie dry instead of fudgy.
For the best lava effect, freeze a small spoonful of Nutella for 5-10 minutes before stuffing it into the dough.
Use a flat, microwave-safe plate instead of a deep bowl. This helps the cookie cook evenly and prevents burning on the edges.
- The lava center is at its best when warm! Once cooled, the Nutella will set slightly, so enjoy it fresh out of the microwave.
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp red food colour
- 5 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- ⅛ tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp nutella, frozen
- In a bowl, take the softened butter, caster sugar and vanilla extract and mix it properly.
- Into this, add red food colour ,all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda .
- Mix this all together, till everything is properly combined and no flour specs are visible.
- Now make a round ball of nutella and put it inside the shaped dough.
- Place it over a parchment paper square and stick the white and milk chocolate chips and crushed oreos on it
- Place this into the microwave and set the timer to 60 seconds.
- Once it is done, cool it for some time and enjoy your 60 second microwave cookie!
