INGREDIENTS USED IN MAKING WATERMELON JELLY
WATERMELON
Bursting with juicy sweetness, watermelon serves as the delicious base for the jelly, providing a refreshing and hydrating flavor that captures the essence of summer in every bite. Its high water content makes it incredibly refreshing, making it a perfect choice for hot summer days. Additionally, watermelon is low in calories.
SUGAR
Besides its role in sweetening the jelly, sugar also contributes to the texture and mouthfeel of the final product. It helps to bind water molecules, giving the jelly a smooth consistency while preventing it from becoming too icy or crystallized. Depending on personal preference, different types of sugar such as granulated, powdered, or even natural alternatives like honey or maple syrup can be used.
AGAR AGAR
As a plant-based alternative to traditional gelatin, agar agar offers several benefits. It’s derived from seaweed, making it suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. Unlike gelatin, agar agar sets at room temperature, allowing for quicker preparation and setting of the jelly. It’s also known for its ability to create a firmer gel texture.
VODKA (optional)
Apart from adding a boozy kick to the jelly, vodka serves as a flavor enhancer and preservative. Its neutral taste allows the watermelon flavor to shine while subtly infusing the jelly with a hint of warmth. This optional ingredient adds a playful twist to the jelly, making it perfect for adult gatherings and cocktail parties.

TIPS TO MAKE WATERMELON JELLY
1. Opt for a ripe, juicy watermelon with vibrant red flesh for the best flavor. A ripe watermelon will have a sweet aroma.
2. After blending the watermelon flesh, strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp or seeds. This will result in a smoother jelly with a more refined texture.
3. Follow the instructions on the agar agar package carefully, as its setting properties may differ from gelatin. Typically, agar agar needs to be boiled and simmered for a few minutes to activate its gelling effect.
4. If adding vodka for an adult twist, stir it into the mixture after removing it from heat to prevent alcohol evaporation.
5. Patience is key when making jelly. Allow the mixture enough time to set properly in the refrigerator, usually around 4-6 hours or overnight, before unmolding or cutting into shapes.
