One of the things that is generating a lot interest and curiosity for us bloggers is decoding the Instagram algorithms which is responsible for the viewership of all our accounts. Unlike several social media outlets, you do not just randomly get followers and maintain the already remaining ones by posting new content for them. Instagram decides which content reaches out to them eventually. And while you could always ask your followers to turn on notifications for your posts, Instagram Algorithm has its own set of rules about managing traffic for all open accounts.
While at first your post is shown to your active followers, depending on how it performs with them Instagram decides whether the post should be then circulated to a larger audience. In case your followers do not engage with your posts, Instagram will put them on low priority list, pushing them further down in everyone’s feeds.
This also means that a lot of our work could likely be hidden from our followers which explains the lack viewership on certain posts. This could be very annoying and could easily disengage us from people we have attracted over time.
Yet, luckily for us, Instagram Algorithms is not all Latin and definitely not hard to crack. There are certain ways a blogger must manage his activities to ensure maximum viewership and no break in his activities.
Know when the audience is active:
There are particular time periods when your audience is likely to be active, maybe around midday or at the end of office hours. Do your own research and make sure you have an idea about the time when your followers are most likely to be scrolling through their feeds. And once the first few handful start engaging with your post, it gives a boost to your account and makes it visible to several others for a longer period.
Do not use Instagram bots:
A lot of users, desperate to gain more followers, use apps or features that allow automated likes or followers. Let me tell you, you definitely aren’t fooling Instagram. In their updated versions, Instagram have managed to close down several automation services or Instagram bots because they violate their terms of services. So your account is likely to get blocked or shadowbanned (Instagram will hide your posts from users who may not be following you)
Instagram stories to raise engagement levels
Instagram’s Stories feature is one very helpful way of engaging with your audience. Instagram stories can be fun, random and very casual, unlike our posts that we mostly like to thematise. At the same time, followers are curious to know all that goes on behind the scene and what your life beyond social media posts look like. Use Instagram stories to engage with your followers, brief casual replies to their queries or comments could put your profile on priority in their list again. This will also make sure that your posts are not hidden from their home feed.
Insights page for posts popularity:
If you have a business account, you know that Instagram has an Insight feature that gives you data on how much views your posts garnered. You can use this feature to understand what sort of content works best with your followers. Trying repeating somewhat similar stuff or better yet experiment more keeping in mind what they look out for.
Make your posts visually attractive:
Beyond everything else, it is always the content that grabs the attention and makes followers stop at your posts while scrolling through their feeds. No matter how many hacks you could figure out in a lifetime to gain more followers or likes, the conventional way of making your post stand out by making it visually attractive still remains most important. Styling your work, getting the right angle, placing them under proper lighting, editing the pictures and adding a catchy caption is what eventually attracts everyone and brings them onto your profile. So always continue to put in a lot of thoughts and effort into your posts. Also, remember to remind your followers to turn on the notifications for your account to keep your posts visible and on priority on their feeds.
Avoid getting shadowbanned but use relevant hashtags
Shadow bans is when Instagram hides your account from potential followers. This affects your growth adversely and reduces the number of views you get for your posts. Instagram imposes shadowbans on accounts who have been reported to be spamming other users with bots, or using too many irrelevant hashtags. So while it is necessary to use relevant, trending hashtags; trying keeping it to a minimum and not over exceeding the limit that makes the hashtag section longer than your caption.
Go Instagram Live
Instagram Live is a wonderful way to engage live with your followers. Instagram allows the users to post live videos of their events while their followers can view and comment on them. So, when you do go live, Instagram sends out a notification to your followers to join the live broadcast and start conversations with you online. It also gets people interested in your work, thereby raising the engagement statistics in your favour. Therefore, I think it is good idea to go LIVE once-in-a-while give your account an extra boost.
Use captions that engage your followers
Beyond your images, followers also keep a lookout for the captions you use. It is completely on you whether you want to keep them descriptive or fun. But another way that you could make people comment on your posts is to ask them about their day, or their favourite recipe or about anything that could generate a discussion. Make sure to reply to them, as it would otherwise be very rude if you asked them yourself but never acknowledged their answers. It also makes your followers feel very involved with your work only furthering their visits to your profile in future.
Now that you know how the Instagram Algorithms work and what you must do to beat them, hopefully everyone can blog better on their platform. These are the sort of tips that could come in handy even when Instagram updates its Algorithms, like it routinely does. They are not the seasonal hacks that come in handy once and get outdated with a newer set policies that come in later.
At the end of the day, what makes you stand out is your content. So regardless of how many tips you know, make sure to always work hard on making and producing better content with each post. The growth of your insta account depends heavily on the quality of what you put on the platform.
So do keep these tips in mind and enjoy blogging while you’re at it. If you have any more further queries on this topic, let me know in the comment section below.
Until then, happy blogging everyone 🙂
