I started sharing blogging tips with y’all last week and plan to make it a regular feature here on the blog. Last week I talked about the importance of finding your niche, which you can read here.
I get a lot of emails and questions from new bloggers asking about how they can monetize their blogs right after they start blogging. It is a great idea to have a vision as soon as you start a blog but it is important to be very patient. Once you start your blog or get onto a new social media platform, it will take some time to pick up.
It would be unfair to expect instant gratification or a certain number of hits or likes or followers. You would definitely have to be ready to put in your time and effort without expecting much in return initially. If you’re patient and regularly push out great content, you will slowly start to see a certain community build up around your work.
I know of bloggers who took more than 5-6 years to monetize their blogging, despite have excellent content. It may take longer than that as well. Luckily for me, I was able to monetize my Instagram just a year after I got into it. However, that’s not the case with my blog. I understand that it is very time consuming to keep a blog active, churn out content regularly and put out something new almost every day. The task would be much easier if we could get instant results- monetary or in terms of appreciation from readers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. You need to keep investing into it, have fun with it, have a clear plan and vision and be patient.
It is very easy to give up blogging because you think your followers are not increasing or because your reach is not as great as you’d like it to be. I’m sure we all feel disappointed more often than not but if you’re blogging because you really enjoy doing it, you must not give up. Try analyzing your content and the response. See what is working and what is not. Work on a new strategy and implement it. Remember, it takes a lot of time to build a good will around yourself. That good will is very important for your readers to trust your opinion, recipes and reviews. It is also very important for the brand that may want to invest their money into you. You’ll only be able to build that good will around yourself over time so be patient!
Happy blogging and stay tuned for next week’s tip!

This was so helpful to read, Shivesh! In this day of instant gratification, it can be tempting to expect overnight success. Thanks for the perspective 🙂

Hi Shivesh, I’ve been reading all your articles and must say, they are very helpful. Thank you.
I want to understand how monetization on Instagram compares to monetization via a blog.
Is it possible to effectively monetize recipes + photographs on Instagram alone and make a decent amount from it? Or is a blog crucial to effectively monetizate your content (through ad placements & SEO?)
Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
