INGREDIENTS USED IN MAKING BUTTER CAKE
-
ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
All purpose flour forms the structural foundation of the cake. Its moderate protein content develops enough gluten to support the cake while still keeping it soft and delicate. Sifting the flour with the leavening agents ensures even distribution and prevents lumps, resulting in a lighter crumb.
-
LEAVENING AGENTS
Baking powder is the primary leavening agent responsible for the cake’s rise. As it reacts with moisture and heat, it releases carbon dioxide bubbles that expand during baking, creating a fluffy and airy texture. Although used in a small quantity, baking soda plays a crucial role. It reacts with the acidity from the yoghurt and vinegar to create additional lift. It also helps produce a finer crumb and contributes to a beautiful golden crust.
-
BUTTER
Butter is undoubtedly the star ingredient in this recipe. Besides adding richness, it contributes to tenderness, flavour, moisture, and the characteristic buttery aroma that makes this cake so irresistible. Using softened butter is essential. Soft butter creams beautifully with sugar, trapping tiny air pockets that expand in the oven and produce a lighter cake.
-
CASTOR SUGAR
Castor sugar dissolves quickly during mixing, producing a smooth batter and an even crumb. Besides sweetness, sugar retains moisture, extends shelf life, and encourages caramelization, giving the cake its beautiful golden colour.
-
YOGHURT
Yoghurt is one of the most important ingredients in this eggless recipe. It replaces eggs by adding moisture, richness, tenderness, and structure. The natural acidity reacts with baking soda to produce carbon dioxide, making the cake rise beautifully. Additionally, yoghurt contributes to a soft crumb that stays fresh longer.
-
MILK
Milk provides the necessary liquid for the batter while enriching the flavour. It hydrates the flour, activates the leavening agents, and contributes proteins and natural sugars that promote browning. The result is a cake that’s soft, moist, and beautifully coloured.
-
VINEGAR
Although only a small amount is added, vinegar makes a noticeable difference. Combined with milk, it creates a quick homemade buttermilk, increasing acidity and enhancing the reaction with baking soda. This results in a softer, fluffier cake with a finer crumb.
-
CHOCOLATE CALLETS
Chocolate callets transform a simple butter cake into something even more indulgent. As they melt slightly during baking, they create pockets of rich chocolate throughout the cake. For best results, lightly coat the chocolate callets with a little flour before folding them into the batter. This helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom.

EQUIPMENTS USED IN MAKING BUTTER CAKE
Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons are the first thing that anybody who is cooking or baking needs. The right quantities will help in the desired outcome, so these two things are a must.
A spatula and a whisk help to bring the ingredients together in mixing bowls. You will also need a 6 inch mould and an air fryer to bake the cake in.
