INGREDIENTS USED IN SNICKERS PUDDING
Peanut butter
Peanut butter brings the rich, nutty flavor that is essential for replicating the iconic taste of a Snickers bar. The natural saltiness of peanut butter complements the sweetness of the pudding, caramel, and ganache layers, creating a harmonious balance that prevents the dessert from becoming overwhelmingly sweet. Peanut butter adds creaminess to the pudding mixture, helping to create a smooth, velvety texture that mimics a mousse. Peanut butter adds a dose of protein and healthy fats to the recipe, which not only improves the flavor but also adds to the creaminess and satisfaction level of the dessert.
Sugar
Sugar is the main source of sweetness in the pudding. It balances the bitterness of the dark chocolate in the ganache and the natural saltiness of the peanut butter. Without sugar, the dessert would lack the characteristic sweet profile of a Snickers-inspired treat. Sugar dissolves into the milk and peanut butter mixture, helping to create a smooth, velvety texture. It integrates well into the liquid, ensuring the pudding remains creamy without any graininess. In combination with the caramel layer, sugar adds to the sweet, rich undertones reminiscent of a classic Snickers bar.
Milk
Milk serves as the primary liquid in the recipe, acting as the base in which other ingredients like sugar, peanut butter, and cornflour dissolve and mix together. It provides the moisture necessary to create the pudding’s smooth and creamy texture. As the milk heats and the cornflour slurry is added, it thickens to create the pudding’s structure. The milk helps achieve a soft, pudding-like consistency without becoming too dense or solid. Milk contributes to the final texture as the pudding cools and sets in the refrigerator, ensuring a smooth, creamy consistency without it becoming too stiff or gelatinous.
Corn flour
Cornflour is responsible for thickening the peanut butter mixture, transforming it from a liquid into a creamy pudding consistency. When heated, cornflour gelatinizes and swells, absorbing the liquid, which causes the mixture to thicken as it cooks. The cornflour ensures the pudding becomes dense enough to hold its shape while remaining creamy and soft. Without it, the pudding would remain too liquid and not set properly. Unlike flour or other thickening agents, cornflour thickens without adding a heavy or starchy feel to the pudding, keeping the dessert light and smooth.
Whipping cream
When whipped to stiff peaks, whipping cream adds air to the pudding, making it light, fluffy, and mousse-like. It helps give the pudding its creamy, cloud-like texture, which contrasts beautifully with the rich peanut butter mixture and the dense chocolate ganache. Whipping cream adds luxurious richness to the dessert, enhancing its creamy mouthfeel. Its fat content gives the pudding a velvety texture, ensuring the dessert feels indulgent and satisfying. Whipping cream, when whipped to stiff peaks, provides structure to the mousse-like pudding, helping it hold its shape once chilled. It adds a stable, airy texture that sets nicely in the refrigerator while maintaining the lightness of the pudding.
Caramel sauce
Caramel sauce is a key element in recreating the flavor profile of a Snickers bar. Snickers is known for its layers of chocolate, peanuts, nougat, and caramel. The caramel sauce in this recipe mirrors the sticky, sweet caramel found in the classic candy bar, contributing to its familiar taste. The caramel adds a sweet, buttery richness to the pudding, which contrasts beautifully with the nutty peanut butter and the slightly bitter chocolate ganache. This creates a balanced flavor combination that prevents any one component from overwhelming the others.
The caramel’s thick, sticky consistency adds an extra layer of indulgence and enhances the sensory experience, giving the dessert a more luxurious and complex texture. The caramel sauce serves as a binding agent for the sliced peanuts arranged on top. Its sticky consistency helps keep the peanuts in place, ensuring an even distribution of peanuts across the surface of the pudding.
It also adds an attractive, glossy layer to the pudding, making it visually appealing.
Peanuts
Peanuts are an essential part of the Snickers candy bar, and they bring that familiar, nutty taste to the pudding, helping to replicate the iconic Snickers flavor. Their addition to the dessert gives it an authentic touch, making it instantly recognizable as a Snickers-inspired treat. Peanuts provide a salty, nutty flavor that contrasts with the sweetness of the caramel sauce, chocolate ganache, and peanut butter mousse.
Peanuts add a satisfying crunch to the otherwise smooth and creamy pudding. The contrast between the soft mousse, ganache, and the crunchy peanuts creates a more dynamic eating experience, with multiple textures in every bite.
Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate, with its slightly bitter, intense flavor, balances the sweetness from the caramel sauce, peanut butter, and whipped cream. Its less sweet nature helps prevent the dessert from being overly sugary, creating a more complex and satisfying flavor profile. The ganache adds a luxurious finishing layer to the pudding, making the dessert feel complete and indulgent.
In a Snickers candy bar, chocolate is a key element, covering the caramel and peanuts. Dark chocolate in the pudding mimics this aspect of Snickers, completing the familiar flavor and texture combination of chocolate, caramel, and peanuts. It helps tie all the elements together to create an authentic Snickers-inspired dessert.
EQUIPMENTS USED FOR MAKING SNICKERS PUDDING
A correct proportion of all the ingredients will guarantee the best taste, so you will need measuring spoons and measuring cups to measure quantities of the various ingredients.
Mixing bowls are equally important while baking to combine ingredients and make batters.
Spatulas and whisks are my favourite tools and I use then as much as the measuring cups and spoons.
For making the pudding, I’ve used a Stahl saucepan.
I have used this oval dish to set my pudding in.
TIPS TO MAKE SNICKERS PUDDING
- Make sure you whisk the cornflour and milk thoroughly to avoid lumps. A smooth slurry will prevent any clumping when you add it to the heated milk mixture.
- If your milk mixture is too hot when adding the slurry, the cornflour may clump. It’s best to add the slurry slowly while whisking constantly.
- Use creamy peanut butter for a smoother texture. If you prefer chunky peanut butter for added texture, make sure it’s well-mixed with the milk so the chunks don’t sink to the bottom.
- Don’t rush the process—cooking on medium heat allows for even thickening.
- Make sure the peanut butter mixture has completely cooled to room temperature before folding in the whipped cream. Adding whipped cream to a warm mixture will cause it to melt and deflate.
- You can use homemade caramel sauce for a fresher taste or store-bought for convenience. The link for my best caramel sauce recipe is linked here and below also.
- You can top the pudding with extra peanuts, a drizzle of caramel, or even some chocolate shavings for a more festive look.
