A smoothie can be one of the easiest ways to put together a quick breakfast, but the best smoothies aren’t simply a combination of fruits and milk. A well-balanced smoothie brings together fruit, protein, fiber, healthy fats, and enough liquid to create something that is creamy, satisfying, and flavorful. This mixed berry smoothie does exactly that. Frozen berries provide a bright, naturally fruity flavor, banana gives the smoothie sweetness and creaminess, while oats and chia seeds add fiber and help make it more filling. A sugar-free sweetener can be added according to taste, and milk brings everything together into a smooth, creamy drink. The best part? There is no complicated cooking involved—just add the ingredients to a blender and blend.

INGREDIENTS USED IN MIXED BERRY SMOOTHIE
-
Mixed Berries
The berries are the star of this smoothie. You can use a store-bought frozen berry mix or create your own combination. Depending on the mix, you may have: Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries. Using frozen berries has an important advantage: they make the smoothie cold and thick without requiring a lot of ice.
Frozen fruit also means you don’t have to wait for berries to be in season. Keep a bag in the freezer and you have a smoothie ingredient ready whenever you need it. Mixed berries are a key ingredient in berry smoothie , contributing to its flavour, colour, and nutritional profile. Berries are rich in antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin A, and various phytonutrients. Each type of berry contributes its own unique taste, creating a complex and well-rounded flavour profile. I have used frozen packed berries for this recipe but you can use fresh mixed berries too.
-
Banana
Because the banana is frozen, it helps create a thick and creamy smoothie without needing ice cream or a large amount of ice. It also balances the natural tartness of berries. This is particularly useful if your berry mixture contains raspberries or blackberries, which can have a sharper flavor. To freeze your banana, peel and slice the banana into 3-4 chunks and freeze them overnight in a zip lock bag.
-
Milk
Milk is the base this smoothie. It provides the liquid needed to blend all the ingredients smoothly. It gives structure and creaminess to the whole Berry Smoothie . I have used Nestle milk but you can use any of your choice like Soy milk, Almond milk, Oat milk, Coconut milk.
The choice of milk will affect the final flavor and creaminess. For a richer smoothie, use full-fat dairy milk or a creamy plant-based milk. For a lighter version, choose a lower-fat or unsweetened plant-based milk.
-
Oats
Oats are a nutrient-dense whole grain, rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals. They add valuable nutrients to the dish, including fibre, which supports digestive health and provides a feeling of fullness. Oats may seem unusual in a smoothie, but they are a great addition if you want something more substantial. They add: Fiber, Texture, Body, A mild, slightly nutty flavor.
Oats also help thicken the smoothie. As they absorb some of the liquid, the drink becomes creamier and more satisfying. Rolled oats are preferable because they blend relatively easily. If your blender isn’t very powerful, you can blend the oats with the milk first before adding the remaining ingredients.
-
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with fibre, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. This makes chia pudding a nutrient-rich option. Chia seeds have a mild, nutty flavour that blends well with various ingredients, allowing them to take on the flavours of other components in the pudding. This means they can make the smoothie slightly thicker as it sits. You don’t need a large quantity, ½ tablespoon is enough to add their characteristic texture without overpowering the smoothie.
-
Sugar Free Sweetener
Since the banana and berries already contribute natural sweetness, the sweetener is optional depending on your taste and the sweetness of your fruit. Frozen berries can vary considerably in tartness. If your smoothie tastes too sharp, a sachet of sugar-free sweetener can help balance the flavor without adding regular sugar.

EQUIPMENT USED IN MAKING MIXED BERRY SMOOTHIE
It’s an easy recipe and doesn’t require a lot of equipment.
My set of Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons always come in handy and are the most important part of any recipe.
Apart from this, a good mixer grinder to combine everything is necessary. And you need your favourite glass to set the chia pudding in.

TIPS TO MAKE THIS MIXED BERRY SMOOTHIE
- If you wish to add extra source of protein to the given recipe, you can add Greek yogurt, nut butter or protein powder of your choice.
- If you need to prepare it in advance, keep it refrigerated and give it a good stir or shake before drinking. The oats and chia seeds will continue absorbing liquid as the smoothie sits, so it may become considerably thicker over time. If this happens, simply add a little milk and stir or blend again.
- Slice the banana before freezing so it blends more easily and makes the smoothie extra creamy.
- Skip the ice if using frozen fruit – Ice can dilute the berry flavor. Frozen berries and banana are usually enough to make the smoothie cold.
- Blend until completely smooth – Give it enough time for the berries, oats, and chia seeds to break down properly. If the blender struggles with frozen fruit, stop, scrape down the sides, add a small splash of milk, and blend again.
- 1 cup mixed berries, frozen
- 1 banana, frozen
- ¼ cup oats
- ½ tbsp chia seeds
- 1 sachet sugar-free sweetener
- 1 cup milk.
- Add all the ingredients mentioned above in a blender jar and blend until completely smooth. Pour into a glass and consume immediately.
