Whenever I travel, I look for destinations that have a distinct memorable personality and an experience to offer that sets it apart from the usual been there, done that. Brisbane, playfully known as Brisvegas, is a very interesting amalgamation of new, trendy restaurants and bars, beautiful parks, modern art, several opportunities to be outdoors and a vibrant social scene. What really sets Brisbane apart is the co-existence of the fast growing city with the colonial heritage and ethnic roots. You can’t help but fall in love with Brisbane that allows for both a laid back, relaxed state of mind and Brisvegas excitement and adventure!
1) Flying business class with Singapore Airlines
The travel experience to the destination, for me, is a very important part of any trip. A smooth check in, a comfortable flight and good food can really get your vacay started before it actually does. My business class travel with Singapore Airlines was that and much more. Post a very seamless check in, security and immigration, I enjoyed a warm dinner at the Silver Kris lounge. The flight through all four sectors ( Delhi to Singapore to Brisbane and back) was incredibly comfortable, made even better by them warm crew on board. I was very impressed by the arrangement of seats offering maximum privacy, more legroom than I knew what to do with, a large entertainment system over my outstretched feet and the three course meal that the stewardess laid out very efficiently . You know you are off to a good start to a trip when you travel lying completely flat on a plane. I stretched out completely and let my chair glide me into Singapore Airlines’ world of comfort in the air. Singapore Airlines connects to Brisbane seamlessly via Singapore. Whether on Business or Economy travel, travelers will get to Brisbane in maximum comfort.Thank you for spoiling me, Singapore Airlines!
2) Vintage Picnic
First experience in Brisbane was straight out of a magical summer dream- a picnic at New Farm Park, set up beautifully by Georgia of Vintage Picnic Company. Every tiny detail from the vintage rugs, cushions, champagne, selection of delicious muffins, croissants and sandwiches and flowers- all very carefully put together under bunting flags right next to a patch of rose plants.
It is experiences like these that truly let you experience the Brisbane pace of life and sunshine state of mind.
3) Night Kayaking
If I’ve to pick one experience from Brisbane that I would go back for in a heart beat, it’ll be night kayaking at Riverlife. Imagine yourself in a kayak in middle of a calm river with the stunning Brisbane sky line in the backdrop. It’s difficult to put into words what I experienced while I was kayaking through the river and soaking in the view of the beautiful city and the story bridge- it’s thrilling and calming at the same time. I’ve always been a water baby but this was my first kayaking experience. The instructor from Riverlife gave us a basic tutorial on how to control your kayak, before we actually dived into it. So even if you’ve never gone kayaking before but would like to experience something new and exciting, this is for you! Once you’re in there, trust me, you wouldn’t want to come back on land!
4)Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
This was one experience I was really looking forward to. When i visited Sydney in 2015, I missed seeing kangaroos and koalas and thought my trip was left incomplete. This time I knew I had to tick this off my list and what better place to do it at than the lone pine koala sanctuary. My day started with feeding the kangaroos. Being honest, I was a little scared in the beginning but soon got comfortable. Holding the koala in my arms have to be the most calming 30 seconds of my life! They’re really like a ball of fluff. What truly impressed me was that the animals are so well taken care of and the staff at the sanctuary is truly put the animals first.
5) Lots of Vegetarian Food
Brisbane, you made me fall in love with pumpkin, zucchini flowers and beet root. Everywhere we ate in Brisbane, one thing that was constant and very impressive was the focus on ingredients and flavour. Some of my many memorable meals in Brisbane were at Donna Chang, the city winery, three blue ducks among others. Stay tuned because I’ll be sharing my list of places to eat at in Brisbane. I’ll also take you through the very exciting eat street and share the dishes you shouldn’t miss!
6) Delectable Tours
One of the most exciting days in Brisbane was for when I booked a tour with Delectable Tours. They curate a list and take you to restaurants that truly represent the innovative Brisbane food scene. Jamie-Lee planned a “Delectable Taste of Queensland” tour for me and personally drove me around to get me to experience some very interesting food that the city has to offer. We started from Albion and Fonzie Abbott for coffee tasting of their signature blends. This was followed by one of my favourite parts- cheese tasting at Stafford and The Cheeseboard. We tasted three Queensland cheeses that were beautifully paired with local wines and beers. We had lunch at Grown, a completely plant based restaurant. I can’t stop thinking about their house made hash brown and the scrambled tofu.
7) Urb-E Tour
Our night kayaking experience at River life was so exciting, we decided to go back, this time for an Urb-E tour. It’s an electric bike which is very easy to get used to very fun to drive around, especially in a city as stunning as Brisbane. Starting from Riverlife at Kangaroo Point, we were taken on an informative tour, stopping at some of Brisbane’s key landmarks, such as the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, South Bank, Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Eagle Street Pier and Howard Smith Wharves, ending the trip in the botanical gardens. I always say that the best way to explore a city is on foot but hey, sometimes it’s very exciting to just Urb-E it!
8) Stay at W, Brisbane
Where do I begin! The best view of the city from my room on the 33rd floor, the beautifully designed wet deck, the edgy & very comfy rooms and the very luxury pool- every aspect of W hotel was luxury at it’s best. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen the room tour on my stories and if you missed it, you can still catch it under my Queensland highlight. I would never step out of that spacious room with exceptional design and the in-room bar, had it not been for a city as happening as Brisbane. Whether you’re in town for work or vacay, book your stay at the hotel to indulge in comfortable luxury, staying true to the W style of hospitality.
