20 Kitchen Essentials I Can’t Live Without

I spend most of my day in the kitchen — baking, cooking, testing recipes, or just making myself a quick cup of coffee. Over the years, I’ve realized that there are a few things I reach for almost every single day. Some of them are big things like a good springform pan, while some are tiny things like a dusting cloth — but trust me, they all make a huge difference.

Here’s a list of 20 kitchen essentials I use every day. If you’re someone who bakes or spends time in the kitchen, these will come in handy for you too.

1. Baarique Spice Box

Every Indian kitchen starts with a spice box. Mine is from Baarique and I can’t imagine cooking without it. From adding a pinch of cinnamon to cakes to sprinkling cardamom in kheer, this little box keeps all my spices organized and within reach. It’s also beautifully crafted, so I don’t mind keeping it out on the counter. A spice box may not feel like a “baking tool” but trust me, warm spices make desserts magical.

2. Flame Lighter

This is such a small thing but makes such a huge difference. I use my flame lighter every day — from lighting the stove to caramelizing sugar on top of desserts when I don’t want to bring out the blowtorch. It’s quick, reliable, and saves me the frustration of matchsticks. If you bake a lot, especially recipes like crème brûlée, a flame lighter is your best friend.

3. Spatula Containers

Buy here
If you bake often, you know how many spatulas and whisks you end up using. I keep mine organized in spatula containers. It may sound boring, but when you’re in the middle of mixing cake batter, the last thing you want is to hunt for the right spatula. These containers make my counter neat and save so much time. A small investment, but truly essential for a baker’s kitchen.

4. Meyer Springform Pan

Buy here
This is the pan I trust for cheesecakes, mousse cakes, or any delicate dessert that needs careful handling. The springform mechanism lets you release the cake without damaging it — which is a lifesaver. It’s sturdy, non-stick, and honestly, once you start using it, you’ll never go back to regular pans for delicate bakes. Every baker needs at least one good springform pan.

5. Waffle Maker

Buy here
Nothing beats fresh waffles for breakfast, and this waffle maker makes it so easy. It heats evenly, gives you perfectly crisp edges, and is compact enough to store. I use it not just for waffles but sometimes to experiment with fun recipes — like cooking hash browns or even waffle-shaped brownies. It’s one of those tools that instantly makes weekend breakfasts more special.

6. Ramekins

Buy here
These little bowls are such multitaskers. I use them for molten lava cakes, soufflés, baked custards, or even just serving dips. They’re oven-safe and present beautifully when you want to serve individual desserts. If you’re someone who enjoys baking in small portions, ramekins are a must-have in your kitchen.

7. IKEA Wooden Bowls

Buy here
I love these because they’re simple, rustic, and versatile. I use them for serving salads, mixing small quantities of ingredients, or even styling my food for photos. Wooden bowls add so much character to a kitchen, and IKEA ones are sturdy and affordable. Not directly a “baking tool,” but I reach for them almost every day.

8. Popsicle Moulds

Buy here
I use popsicle moulds all the time in summers — to freeze yogurt popsicles, fruit sorbets, or even leftover cake batter for fun frozen treats. They’re great if you like experimenting with desserts beyond the oven. Kids especially love them, and I find they’re a smart way to make guilt-free snacks at home.

9. Big Storage Jars

Buy here
Every baker needs good storage jars. I use mine for flour, sugar, oats, and other pantry staples. These airtight jars keep everything fresh and organized. Plus, I love how neat my shelves look when everything is stored in matching jars. If you bake often, investing in good jars is non-negotiable.

10. Dusters

Buy here
This may sound too basic, but trust me, dusters are lifesavers in the kitchen. When you bake, there’s always flour, sugar, or cocoa powder spilling somewhere. Having a stack of dusters handy keeps your workspace clean and stress-free. A clean kitchen truly makes baking more enjoyable.

11. IKEA & Velora Knives

Good knives aren’t just for cooking — bakers need them too. I use mine to chop chocolate, slice fruits, or even level cakes. The IKEA knives are reliable for everyday use, while my Velora knife is my go-to for precision work. Once you use a sharp, well-balanced knife, you’ll never go back to struggling with blunt ones.

12. Rena Cake Stand

Buy here
A cake stand is not just for presentation — though it does make your cakes look beautiful. I also find it handy while frosting cakes, as it gives me better control and height. This Rena stand is simple, elegant, and sturdy. If you love baking cakes for birthdays or special occasions, a good cake stand is a must-have.

13. Hung Curd Strainer

Buy here
This is something I use surprisingly often. Many of my healthier dessert recipes call for hung curd, and this strainer makes the process so easy. Instead of the messy cloth-and-bowl method, I just add curd to the strainer and let it sit. It’s perfect for making cheesecakes, dips, or even creamy frostings.

14. Oil Dispenser

Buy here
I prefer using an oil dispenser instead of bottles. It makes pouring neat, controlled, and less messy — especially when you’re greasing pans for baking. It’s one of those small upgrades that really improves your everyday cooking and baking experience.

15. Oven Mitts

Buy here
Oven mitts are non-negotiable in a baker’s kitchen. Handling hot trays, pans, or even glass bowls straight out of the oven is risky without them. The mitts I use are thick, comfortable, and provide a good grip. It may sound obvious, but a good pair of oven mitts keeps you safe and confident while baking.

16. Silicone Grips

Buy here
These are like mini oven mitts and are perfect for quickly grabbing hot handles or trays. They take up less space, are easy to slip on, and I use them all the time when I don’t need the full mitts. For bakers, these grips are very practical and save you from accidental burns.

17. Mason Jars (Kilner Premium)

Buy here
I use mason jars for so many things — storing homemade granola, layering desserts like trifles, or even carrying smoothies. They’re durable, come with airtight lids, and look so pretty for serving desserts too. I always keep a few in my kitchen.

18. Breakfast Bowl (QSHI Studio Strawberry Bowl)

Buy here
This is my favorite breakfast bowl. It’s big enough for smoothie bowls, oatmeal, or yogurt parfaits, and the strawberry print adds a fun touch. I believe eating out of a nice bowl makes the meal feel even more special — and as someone who enjoys styling food, I use this all the time.

19. Mini Kitchen Essentials (Set of 4 Tools)

Buy here
This set has four basics: a whisk, a grater, a potato masher, and a vegetable peeler — all with sturdy wooden handles. I use the whisk for quick batters, the grater for zesting citrus into cakes, the masher for fruits in desserts, and the peeler daily for veggies. It’s a compact but powerful set that covers a lot of everyday needs.

20. Glass Saucepan

Buy here
This is one of my most loved kitchen items. A glass saucepan looks elegant and is super practical — I use it for melting chocolate, making custards, or heating milk. Because it’s transparent, you can actually see what’s happening while cooking, which helps avoid burning or overcooking. It’s also beautiful enough to serve in directly.

These 20 essentials are things I genuinely use every day in my kitchen. They make my baking routine smoother, faster, and more enjoyable. If you’re setting up your kitchen or looking to add a few reliable tools, I hope this list helps you. These 20 things may look like a random mix, but together they make my kitchen run smoothly every day. Baking is not just about having an oven and a whisk — it’s about being prepared and organized. If you’re just starting out, don’t feel like you need to buy everything at once. Start small — get a good spatula, a baking pan, and some measuring tools. Slowly, you’ll figure out what you need most and build your collection just like I did.

Do you already use any of these? Or is there one thing from this list you’d like to add to your kitchen? Tell me in the comments — I’d love to know.
